In the second episode of our three-part series on NFTs, your hosts Trace and Craig discuss the exciting world of Play-to-Earn NFT games. Many people think of NFTs as just collectible JPEG images of apes and punks, but they actually have many other real-life use cases. Play-to-earn gaming is one way for NFT enthusiasts to make money with their NFTs in the metaverse. There are several different ways to do this, including selling items, selling characters, competing in tournaments, and building up characters for other players.\

The traditional gaming world has long-featured in-game purchases such as swords, armor, or other items that can improve your character. However, these items are inextricably linked to the game and can’t be sold, exported, or used in other games. This means they lose their value entirely once you’ve finished playing the game. With NFT-based in-game items, you can collect rare items through extensive playing and sell these items to other players at a profit.

Axie Infinity is one of the most popular play-to-earn metaverse games, particularly in the Philippines where thousands of people make a living off the game. Craig gives us a real-life example of how he tested out a team of Axie Infinity players who would earn him a certain amount of in-game tokens known as Smooth Love Potion (SLP). Tracey mentions Supremecy, a similar play-to-earn game using SUP tokens that is yet to go live but includes a complex roadmap with a focus on long-term success.

In the rest of the episode, we discuss Australia's own play-to-earn platform Immutable X, how cross-chain compatibility works, and we reveal a special code for new Bamboo users to get $10 worth of Ethereum for free!
